The problem

Most "birthday freebie" lists are the same recycled roundup of national chains. They miss the best part of celebrating locally: the neighborhood bakery that gives you a free cupcake, the craft brewery with a birthday pint, or the local spa with a complimentary service. The Birthday Report exists to fill that gap.

How it works

1. Reddit discovery

We start with Reddit, where real people share the birthday deals they have actually found and redeemed in their city. Local subreddits and birthday-focused communities surface deals that never appear on mainstream lists.

2. Blog and website research

We cross-reference Reddit findings with local blogs, city guides, and individual business websites to confirm details, find additional offers, and gather redemption requirements.

3. AI-assisted extraction and normalization

We use AI to extract deal details from unstructured sources and normalize them into a consistent format: what the deal is, where to get it, what you need to bring, and any restrictions. Every AI-extracted deal is reviewed for accuracy before publication.

4. Monthly verification

Deals change. Businesses update their promotions, close locations, or stop offering birthday specials. We re-verify every deal in our database on a monthly cycle. Each deal in your report shows when it was last verified and its original source.

Data sources

  • Reddit: Local subreddits and birthday-related communities
  • Local blogs and city guides: Independent writers covering food, lifestyle, and entertainment by metro area
  • Business websites: Direct confirmation of offers, hours, and redemption terms

Data freshness

Every deal in your report includes a "last verified" date and a source. If a deal was verified within the past 30 days, you can be confident it is current. Older verifications may still be accurate, but we recommend confirming directly with the business.

Limitations

Coverage varies by city. Larger metro areas tend to have more deals and more active Reddit communities. Smaller cities may have fewer listings. Deals can change between verifications, and we cannot guarantee that any business will honor a listed deal. We aggregate publicly available information and are not affiliated with any business listed in our reports.

No paid placements

No business pays to be listed in The Birthday Report. Our reports are based entirely on editorial research. We do not accept advertising, sponsored placements, or payment from featured businesses. This policy will be clearly disclosed if it ever changes.
